Liesbeth List passed away

On March 25, the grande dame of the Dutch chanson Liesbeth List passed away at the age of 78. She was not only a well-known Dutch person, but also a relative - albeit distant - for us. We know this from the TV program Hidden Past, in which she went in search of her ancestors. She turned out to be a descendant of Elso Arnoldus Haselhoff, lieutenant in Napoleon's army. For the TV program that was broadcast in 2011, recordings were made in the Wedder borg, where she was offered the Chronicle of the Haselhoff family. Liesbeth List was very interested in her family history and a year later, together with her husband and 2 board members of the Family Foundation, visited the former Haselhof farm in Wambel near Dortmund.
The Dutch chansonnière is known for songs such as Love life and sang many translated Jacques Brel songs. Legendary was her collaboration with Ramses Shaffy, which resulted in the song Pastorale, for example.
In her career, List won two Edisons and a Golden Harp. She worked for the song Pastorale, among others, with Ramses Shaffy. List also proved her artistic talent in musicals. She played the role of French singer Edith Piaf twice, in Piaf in 1999 and again ten years later. She won the Johnny Kraaykamp Musical Award for both roles. She stopped performing in 2017, she was suffering from dementia. Shortly afterwards, a musical about her life was made: Liesbeth.
List has also sung several songs with Frank Boeijen. About ten days before her death, she shared the song The abandoned city on Facebook, for "this difficult time", referring to the corona crisis.
